Microsoft Build 2023 Highlights: ChatGPT Integration with Bing, Windows Copilot and More
Microsoft recently wrapped up its developer-centric event, Build 2023, which has the same meaning for Microsoft as I/O for Google and WWDC for Apple. As expected, the event featured numerous AI-related announcements.
During the event, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella presented a series of exciting updates to various product lines. These included notifications related to Bing, Windows Copilot and ChatGPT.
ChatGPT integration with Bing, a new universal extension
Microsoft breathed new life into Bing by launching an updated search engine that runs on OpenAI’s GPT-4 LLM. Building on this success, the company continues to improve the ChatGPT experience by integrating Bing as ChatGPT’s default search tool. This integration has already been rolled out for ChatGPT Plus subscribers and will come to free users via an extension.
In addition, Microsoft plans to implement a new common extension platform that enables the interoperability of ChatGPT and Microsoft’s copilot offers.
AI Copilot for Windows 11
Microsoft announced that Windows 11 will get a new Windows Copilot, based on the foundation that brought AI-powered Bing to the Windows taskbar. The tech giant says that Windows Copilot preview will be available for Windows 11 users in June this year.
Developers can now integrate extensions with Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft now offers three major categories of plugins – including Teams messaging plugins, Power Platform plugins, and tools that leverage ChatGPT. “Developers can easily build new extensions for Microsoft 365 Copilot using the Microsoft Teams Toolkit for Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio,” Microsoft said.
Going forward, Microsoft will deploy more than 50 extensions from partners including Atlassian, Adobe, ServiceNow, Thomson Reuters, Moveworks, and Mural.
Microsoft Edge for more AI-enabled features
Microsoft also announced that Microsoft 365 Copilot will be integrated into Microsoft Edge. Currently in private preview, this feature will be integrated into the browser sidebar, allowing users to simplify their work in Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel and more.
